Bright and hard-working students at Samuel Whitbread Academy in Clifton were congratulated by their headteacher after achieving excellent GCSE results.

Rob Robson praised students on Thursday (August 23) after the academy posted its best maths results ever and 20 per cent of students achieved A* and A grades.

He said: “As always, I am incredibly impressed with the outcome for our young people who have worked very hard this year.

“They have done really well in all areas and I am particularly impressed with their results in maths which is an area that has shot forward.”

The academy opened its doors at 8am yesterday (Thursday) for students to collect their results and youngsters arrived throughout the course of the morning.

Lily Cook, 16, of Stotfold was among the students who was given special praise for her results.

They included eight A*s, two As and a B.

She said: “I worked hard but the grades are better than I expected.

“I’m going on to Hitchin Girls School to do my A-levels.”

Luke Burkett, 16, who lives in Clifton was also in celebratory mood after achieving top grades - despite having sat some 17 exams.

He said: “I sat GCSEs in quite a lot of subjects and I’m really pleased with the results, especially my A* in biology and As in maths, ethics, chemistry, physics, drama and PE.

“I also achieved a distinction in my BTECH.”

Ed Oetgen, 16, of Arlesey was also happy with his grades.

He said: “I got five As, three Bs and a C.

“I wanted to get an A* in maths but apart from that I’m very pleased.”

Friends Becky Reed, 16, of Stotfold and Natasha Hirst, 16, of Meppershall are also looking forward to starting their A-levels after achieving top GCSEs, with 10 A grades between them.
