Stratton Upper School students have yet again achieved record GCSE results.
Following its best ever A-level results, the Biggleswade school recorded grades that show that 53 per cent of students gained five or more GSCE passes including core subjects English and maths.
That’s an increase of three per cent from last year despite the national picture suggesting grades in English have dropped.
Maths results have shown significant improvement which was a particular objective of the school. The overall pupil pass rate was 70 per cent.
Headteacher Rob Watson said: “This is exactly what we had predicted, and reflects very well on a year group who worked very hard throughout Year 11.”
He added: “The result of this is that more students than ever finished Year 11 with those all-important qualifications which will firmly set them up for the next stage of their journey to adulthood.”
Smiling faces surrounded the school hall where the majority of previously nervous students left with joy on Thursday (August 23), knowing their efforts had been rewarded.
Among the many successful students was Josh Heafield, who achieved 14 grades including five A*s and five As.
He will now study A-levels in biology, chemistry, maths and German at the school.
He said: “I was nervous about my results and even more so when I heard the grade boundaries across the country had been raised this year, but now I am just relieved and very pleased with what I got.”
Another high-flyer was Libby Prodger who achieved eight A*s, seven As and two Bs.
She said: “I couldn’t be happier with my results!
“In most subjects I got higher grades than I expected and I’m ecstatic that I got the results I needed.”
Libby will now be studying at Hills Road College in Cambridge from September.
Stand-out performer Chloe Fearn achieved an incredible eleven A*s out of her 13 grades.
This puts her among the most able students in her age group across the entire country.
Hoping to one day work in the world of science, Chloe said: “I have been quite calm about my results because there was nothing more I could do to affect them but I did better than I expected.”
