Police have announced a poster competition to highlight the dangers of swimming in rivers and lakes during the summer.
The winning entry will be displayed in local shops, towns and schools and is open to anyone aged between eight and 13.
Completed posters should be sent by Friday, August 8 and addressed to Biggleswade Police Station for the attention of PCSO 4939.
Entrants should include their name, age and a telephone number or email address.
The winner will be contacted by Monday, August 11.
Last year alone 227 people lost their lives in lakes, reservoirs or inland waters.
A Bedfordshire police spokesperson said: “We wish to remind all residents of Biggleswade and the surrounding villages, about the dangers of swimming in the lakes and rivers during the summer months.
“Although the weather is hot, the rivers are still dangerously cold.”
