Fred and Sheila Harris, of Woodmer Close, Shillington, celebrated their Diamond Wedding Anniversary last Thursday. The couple received a card from the Queen to mark their 60 years of marriage and it was clear they were still delighted to be together.
The couple went out for a meal the evening before the landmark day and were then taken out for another meal by their son on the Saturday after.
Mr Harris said: “We met at a rollerskating rink in Hitchin in 1954 and we got married in the August of the same year.
“We got a card from the Queen. We’ve also got a bottle of champagne from our son which we haven’t opened yet.”
The couple now enjoy retirement with Mr Harris taking an interest in aeroplanes at Shuttleworth.
