An existing community hall may have to be closed in order for a new facility to be built.
Potton’s town councillors looked a feasibility study for the proposed Hall for All in the town at their meeting on Tuesday (November 6).
The study, produced by Jon Boswell, deputy chief executive for the Bedfordshire Rural Communities Charity (BRCC) recommends that a new hall is built but states that this “could require closure and sale of at least one existing venue.”
He lists this as the best of four options. The others are doing nothing, extending or converting an existing building or building only a small hall on the new site on the Biggleswade Road development.
Detailing potential funding sources, the report says: “Central Bedfordshire Council currently owns at least two buildings in Potton.
“One option worth exploring would be whether any of these assets could be sold, with the proceeds going towards the new hall.”
There are also many other potential funding avenues.
Councillor Andy Hopkins expressed his concern that the new hall would be too far away from the town centre.
None of the other councillors voiced their opinions about the report.
However Central Beds Councillor Adam Zerny suggested that one or more town councillors could attend Hall for All meetings.
