Commuters will soon be able to sit down and read the morning paper as they travel to work.
The rush hour trains travelling from Sandy, Biggleswade and Arlesey to London King’s Cross are usually overcrowded, meaning that passengers often have to stand in the corridor.
But train company, First Capital Connect, is seeking to solve this problem by running longer trains from Sunday, December 9.
The platforms were lengthened earlier in the year to take 12 carriage trains rather than the usual eight carriage trains.
There will not be any more carriages in operation but they will be redistributed.
Neal Lawson, managing director at First Capital Connect, said: “There will be 2,400 extra seats daily off-peak too and 900 on Saturdays but we urge people to continue to check before they travel, especially on Sundays when Network Rail’s engineering programme will continue to lead to significant changes week by week.”
The 6.32am and 7.32am services from Peterborough will have 12 carriages.
The current 6.17am service from Peterbrough will depart at 6.15am and it will now stop at Biggleswade. It will arrive at Biggleswade at 6.47am.
But the 6.40am service from Huntingdon will be withdrawn so that its carriages can be added to the other trains.
The first off-peak service of the day, the 9.16am train from Peterborough, will have 12 carriages. In the evenings the 5.10pm train from King’s Cross will be reduced from 12 to eight carriages.
But the 5.44pm and 8.14pm services from King’s Cross will be lengthened to 12 carriages.
The 8.57pm service from Peterborough will leave at 8.42pm and an extra service will leave at 9.46pm. The 10.30pm from Peterborough will now leave at10.27pm.
