A sports-mad teenager who helps schools and clubs to run activities has been nominated for a top award.

Benjamin Daniels, 14, of Stotfold helps to run sports clubs at Gothic Mede Lower School and Etonbury Academy in Arlesey.

He dedicates himself to the voluntary work six days a week – and is now in the running for a YOPEY award.

The YOPEY – or Young People of the Year – awards recognise youngsters who have dedicated themselves to good causes or have undertaken work in the community.

Benjamin, known as Benj was nominated by his current school, Samuel Whitbread Academy in Clifton.

His former teacher at Samuel Whitbread Tony Edwards said: “Benjamin is a proactive member of my tutor group and the academy.

“He is always first to suggest and bring new ideas for bringing the group together, whether for encouraging fundraising or general tutor activities.”

Teacher Michael Warlow of Gothic Mede Lower said: “Benj has supported our after-school clubs for the whole year, starting with the tag rugby club through the winter and then offering welcome support for our cricket club in the spring and summer.”

Nominations for this year’s YOPEY awards close on February 27.
