Potential councillors are being urged to be independents.
A new website has been launched by independent Central Beds Councillor, Mark Smith, who represents the Ampthill ward.
It asks candidates to consider eschewing the existing political parties and instead stand on their own two feet.
There are currently two independent Central Beds councillors in Chronicle Country, Councillor Adam Zerny of Potton and Councillor Alison Graham of Silsoe and Shillington.
The new website and associated Facebook and Twitter pages have been launched with the aim of getting more Central Beds residents to stand as independent candidates in the next local elections in May 2015.
Councillor Julian Murray, leader of the independent councillors in Central Beds, said: “There are four reasons to be independent for Central Beds. Firstly, 99 per cent of people do not belong to political parties.
“Secondly, whilst other councillors’ allegiances may lie first with their party and second with their community an independent will place interests of their community first.
“Thirdly, Central Beds Council requires independent scrutiny. Lastly, arguably party politics has no place in local government.”
