Biggleswade Town chalked up an impressive 2-0 victory over a strong Frome Town side at the Carlsberg Stadium on Tuesday night.
It wasn’t a vintage performance from the Waders in freezing conditions but they took the lead early on with one of the best goals seen at the ground this season.
Alex Witham gathered the ball, cut inside the left hand corner of the box and unleashed a powerful shot into the top corner of the net.
Frome nearly levelled shortly afterwards when Kris Miller’s acrobatic overhead kick was well stopped by Ian Brown.
Chances were few and far between as the half wore on and there was little to choose between the teams.
The Somerset side started the second half brightly, Brown needing to be sharp to save a free kick, but it was the Waders who grabbed the second goal midway through the period when sub Brett Donnelly finished off a free kick from Lee Allinson.
From there Biggleswade looked to be in control of the three points. And they could have netted a third but hit the woodwork.
