Is there enough to keep the young people occupied in this area?
This week the project co-ordinator of Sandy Skatepark, Ken Lynch, gave an ultimatum; either help to raise funds for its replacement or accept that it is gone forever.
Last year it was demolished because it was dangerous and many people said how much they wanted it to be reinstated. But hardly anyone has put themselves forward to help raise the necessary funds for new ramps.
Perhaps in reality people aren’t that fussed about having a skatepark.
This means that there is less for children and teenagers to do in Sandy.
And parents around Chronicle Country often say that they would like somewhere else to take their young children or a place for their teenagers to meet friends – a particular issue during the long summer holidays.
Bowling alleys and cinemas have long been suggested but these are both expensive and require fairly large plots of land.
A smaller scale and often cited idea is a soft play area.
Do you think that children and teenagers should be given more entertainment? Or should they be able to occupy themselves?
