Commuter parking in Biggleswade’s residential roads could be significantly reduced if a new town council bid is approved.
Biggleswade Town Council wants to introduce new parking restrictions in Chaucer Drive, Tennyson Avenue and Dickens Court.
The roads surround Dells Lane where it is hoped new parking restrictions will be enforced by Central Beds Council to stop dangerous and hazardous parking by drivers who commute to London on the train.
At a meeting on Tuesday (April 23) members of Biggleswade Town Council agreed to bid for up to £4,500 to help pay for traffic orders in the three roads from Central Beds’ new matched funding scheme. This could be supplemented by up to £4,500 from town council funds.
The initiative lets town and parish councils apply for money they can use to fund transport schemes.
Councillor Madeline Russell, who put forward the motion to apply for matched funding at the meeting said: “This has been an ongoing issue for residents who live in these roads for a long time.
“We hope that traffic orders in these roads could stop people from parking for a one-hour period each morning, making the roads unavailable for commuters.“
